Love’s Labour’s Lost
Love’s Labour’s Lost by William Shakespeare
venue: Actor’s Guild of Lexington (Equus Run), Lexington, KY
date: June-July 2007
Director: Anthony Haigh
Actor’s Guild of Lexington was a small community theatre evolving to a small professional theatre. This production was one attempt to move it toward that status. The performance of Love’s Labour’s Lost was held at a local vineyard that had an outdoor stage and, was performed before sunset over the course of several weeks. Lighting was natural and the setting was minimal so the costumes were expected to carry the weight of the production.
This production was approached as an idealized comedy set in the medieval period. I designed the costumes using the Tres Riches Heures du Duc de Berry manuscripts as inspiration. The strong, jewel tone colors and larger than life figures of the illustrations were very suitable in creating the world of this production.
